Flash Fic Month '11. July 29thDo not believe the songs of bards. War is not glorious. There is no honour to die in the fight. Battle is not poetic, and it is not beautiful. There is only blood, and tears, and the sounds of dying men; the stench of offal from the piles of endless corpses. There is only death.
Flash Fic Month '11. July 28thThe two armies faced each other across the battlefield, a long bloody history, and the memories of countless dead, between them. For generations the orcs and men had fought this war, and for generations into the unforeseeable future they would continue to fight until one side utterly defeated the other.
Against the dark, clouded sky, the standards of both sides flapped damply in the cold breeze that stirred the meadow grass and raised goosebumps on the bare flesh of the soldiers, and perched atop one of them, a coal-black raven croaked. Thunder rumbled overhead, and the warriors of one army began to howl.
The sound was bloodthirsty and bloo
Flash Fic Month '11. July 27thShe finished applying the final touches to her makeup, then turned her gaze to look dramatically into the dressing table's mirror.
"I," she whispered theatrically to herself, "Am an actress."
Across from the vanity, sprawled out on her back on the dressing room's shabby green sofa whilst reading a book, Sammy paused and raised her eyebrows emphatically to herself before going back to her book. Christine caught the expression in the mirror, and her reflection scowled.
"I am!" she insisted. Sammy didn't look up from the book, but just sighed and answered mechanically in a flat tone.
"Of course you are."
"You're just jealous," Christine huf
Flash Fic Month '11. July 26th"Da! You've got vidfax messages!"
Crouching on the counter, awaiting his food, Felix purred as Amber smiled and tickled his chin after calling her father. She'd just gotten a tin of meat down from the cupboard and was using the ringpull to open it so she could scoop the contents out into her pet's bowl, when Clay entered the kitchen, holding a mug of coffee and wearing only an old short-sleeve t-shirt that showed the tattoos that covered his arms and a pair of sweats. He looked a little bemused.
Amber wordlessly pointed to the vidfax machine with the spoon she was using to dish out Felix's food, a red digital 10 flashed on the dark
Flash Fic Month '11. July 25thIt was the most beautiful thing the goldfish had ever seen; blue like the ocean and so shiny.
"What is it?" Vicodin asked, staring goggle-eyed at the thing that had graced their tank with its presence.
"I don't know " Morphine whispered, equally mesmerised.
Enraptured, the two fish wiggled a little closer to the thing, gasping as it caught a stray ray of sunshine and sparkled.
"It's so beautiful " Vicodin said, completely enamoured. As though hypnotised, the two fish circled the thing, unable to leave it alone-
"MOLLY! YOUR SON DUMPED MY PRIZE-WINNING FORD FOCUS MODEL INTO THE DRUG FISH'S TANK!"
Flash Fic Month '11. July 24th"Lobo!? What did you do!?"
I looked down at the plate of baked potatoes, or what should have been backed potatoes anyway, before grinning at Reaper sheepishly. One had turned into a pile of mushy goop, another had turned black, the third had gone as hard as a rock, and the fourth well the fourth was splattered all over the inside of the microwave where it had exploded.
"I put them in the microwave like you said to."
"Did you stab them!?"
"Yeah! I stabbed them, then put them on the plate and put them in the microwave."
"How long for!?"
"Five minutes for each potato, just like you said!"
"You're meant to watch them!"
"I did! I wat
